Cape
May National Wildlife Refuge
Complete
GIS Development and Training
GDM
prepared a fully integrated GIS for the Cape May National Wildlife
Refuge. We purchased computer hardware and software and assembled
a database from existing digital sources. GDM gathered the data,
rectified each layer, created a database management system, and
delivered a complete GIS to Cape May. The result is a functioning
GIS that will assist the Refuge biologists with resource delineation
that will facilitate resource analysis, wildlife tracking, and management
decisions. The refuge will also be able to identify areas with dangerous
fuel loads and conduct wildlife habitat and fuel reduction prescribed
burns. Along with the delivery of the GIS, GDM trained Refuge personnel
in ArcGIS, as well as system operation, backup and maintenance.
Project Delivery Performance:
Work on this project proceeded according to management plans, on
budget and on schedule. In addition, GDM went above and beyond the
expected hours of training to be sure that Refuge personnel were
comfortable with data manipulation as well as with simple hardware
operation.
Quality, Service or Cost Problems:
Data layers were collected from many sources and as a result are
defined by many different formats. GDM took the time necessary to
convert all layers to compatible formats so that the GIS operated
smoothly and easily when delivered to Cape May.
