GDM provided on-site support to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics Office of Geographic Information Systems (OGIS). OGIS is charged with providing GIS technical expertise to BTS, to other modal administrators and offices throughout the Department of Transportation, and to make GIS-T data and analytical techniques available to transportation planners and the general public.

• GIS Applications Development Support
  

GDM created FACTOVIEW, an ArcView cartographic utility to automate and streamline the production of urban area and state transportation maps. DOT staff previously took hours of staff time responding to map requests for briefing trips taken by Transportation Secretary Ron Slater and other high-ranking officials.

• Internet Map Server Database and GIS Clearinghouse for Transportation
  

GDM developed a BTS GIS Clearinghouse to facilitate internet, map-based search and retrieval of transportation data layers as part of the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Clearinghouse.

• Cartographic and Graphic Support for Maps and Reports
  

  GDM provided quality maps, analytic products, and graphics for the high-profile DOT Reports. GDM also developed an enhanced version of the 20- by 32-inch National Transportation Facilities Poster that incorporates shaded relief imagery.

• GIS Database and Analytical Support
  

GDM supports the development of the National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD) through spatial and attribute accuracy validation and improvements to metadata development. NTAD covers all major transportation modes, including highways, railroads, mass transit, oil and pipeline utilities, ports, airports, and other national baseline data.

• Geocoding the DOT Grants Database

GDM developed an ArcView GIS interface to provide real-time access to DOT's legacy database of transportation projects going back to 1940. The project addresses questions pertaining to where the money goes.
